Zola Studios Looking for Talent

Alya Mooro and Basma Khalifa have launched Zola Studios and are on the lookout for new and exiting talent:

“As part of our first collaboration we are teaming up with renowned studio DBK owned by Koby Adom.

Together with DBK’s support and success from their Unearthed Narratives series for Sky Studios, we are putting together stories from filmmakers with British-SWANA backgrounds and perspectives in an effort to increase much needed representation and to showcase the diversity and richness of the culture(s), with an aim to get this commissioned and funded by a broadcaster.

Do you have a scripted short that you've been working on / thinking about? Stories from our regions are often painted or portrayed in a certain light so we want to encourage all writers and filmmakers to think outside the box and be as imaginative as possible in how to tell your stories. Rather than a straightforward drama, are there sci-fi elements, or comedy gems you can add. Be as creative and daring with your script as possible. We would love for your imaginations to run wild!

At this stage we are looking for either a one-page outline of your idea or a script if you have al-ready written one. There is scope for the stories to be shot outside of the UK (in the Swana region) if it is needed for your story development but the overarching feel should be inked in the British-Swana experience. As we are receiving a large number of submissions, we probably won’t have huge amounts of time for individual one on ones so please do be clear on your direction and story/plot/characters when sending as the decision process will be between Zola Studios and DBK studios respectively.

We are so excited to read it!”

Please email any submissions to info@zola-studios.com by the 31st July, 2023.
